Our feet and legs are the dynamic foundations of our upright stance and mobility, and are the physical bedrock of our grounding. If you were to ask an architect to design a building with the overall structural features of the upright human body--far taller than wide, a broad and heavy superstructure with the center of gravity well above the midline, very narrow base with no foundation dug into the earth, no system of external guy wires--you would simply be laughed out of the office. Yet this impossible balancing act is exactly what is accomplished by the coordination and smooth function of the muscles, connective tissue and bones of the feet and legs. The forces distributed through the foot to the ground from the weight and movement of the upper body are enormous, and when the reflex coordination of balance is not operating smoothly, these forces can drastically stiffen, distort and rigidify the feet and legs. In turn, stiffness and distortion in the platforms of the feet are inevitably reflected in imbalances and dysfunctions from ankle to atlas. By addressing these relationships more effectively, we can literally help our clients to get more mileage out of their lives.
Please bring shorts and bra tops so that you can be easily seen and contacted.
Students will deepen their skills in:
--assessing clients histories and evaluating existing patterns in the feet and legs --planning a session strategy that meets their specific needs --using the tools of their training more effectively --applying new tools to their practice --their own body mechanics at the table --reducing their stress and fatigue at the table
