Touch is a basic human need all of our lives. Touch Therapy for the Terminally Ill is an intimate, palliative ceremony, honoring a person at the end stages of their lives, rather than a therapy designed to change or heal their illness. Bodywork not only addresses the physical needs of a client/patient, but also their emotional, social and spiritual needs. Receiving bodywork reminds the patient that their body can still be a sign of pleasure. It is an honor and a privilege to work with the dying. They truly teach us how to live. In this course we will define the quality of life issues that will bring us to focus on their needs and their rights. As an advocate for the dying, I offer this course to teach the importance of touch therapies for the terminally ill. The benefits gained by the patient are many as it makes the mind, body, spirit connection and adds to the quality of their life.
You will learn hands on techniques for touching the terminally ill. We will explore the appropriate modalities you have available to use and how to integrate them. We will learn how to listen to the dying as well as learning techniques for communicating with a grieving family. This course takes you deep into your own beliefs and fears around death and dying. It is my hope to provide you with a new way of looking at the transition experience and inspire a desire to get involved with this important work.
